Innovative process water management in fresh-cut production

Hygiene, food safety and efficiency when washing fruit, vegetables and salad leaves

In cooperation with its partner Citrosol from Spain, KRONEN has developed the KRONEN CITROCIDE® hygienization system for the hygienic washing of fruit, vegetables and salad leaves. This new solution aims to offer an alternative to chlorine-based disinfection that also optimizes water usage. The result: a system for hygienically washing food products for two applications:

to hygienize entire fruits and vegetables
to hygienically wash fresh-cut products

The washing system combines the high-quality KRONEN washing machines with the CITROCIDE^® system, which automatically doses a highly-effective washing additive into the wash water.

The system minimizes the microbial load on the products and in the wash water by using the washing additive CITROCIDE^® PLUS to neutralize microorganisms in the wash water. This helps to prevent cross-contamination and improve food safety.

The effectiveness of the system has undergone comprehensive testing in an industrial setting and been proven on a multitude of products in laboratory tests conducted by the CNTA (National Centre for Food Technology and Safety) in Spain.

The washing process minimizes the contamination of fruit and vegetables with bacteria, fungi, yeasts viruses and spores by using the washing additive CITROCIDE® PLUS to neutralize microorganisms in the wash water.

The use of the washing additive CITROCIDE^® PLUS ensures optimal hygiene in the wash water and allows for safe recycling with no risk of cross-contamination. As a result, the water does not need to be replaced as often and water consumption can be significantly reduced.

Approved in Germany for organically grown food

Approved in Germany for organically grown food

The solution is certified in Germany for use as an additive for the hygienic washing of fruit and vegetables, including organically grown products pursuant to the European standard REG (EC) 834/2007.

Can be retrofitted into and used in all KRONEN washing machines

The high-quality KRONEN washing machines and the CITROCIDE® measuring and dosing system are perfectly coordinated. The system enables a hygienic, efficient and user-friendly washing process. What’s more, the CITROCIDE®system can also be retrofitted into existing KRONEN washing machines.
